Art of Collage with Kathryn Gearon

This mixed-media studio course explores abstract collage through the integration of drawing, paper, and photographic elements. Students will investigate mark-making, layering, and composition to develop expressive, non-representational works. Techniques include combining hand-drawn elements with cut paper, found imagery, and printed photographs, emphasizing texture, transparency, and contrast. Through guided exercises and individual projects, participants will experiment with visual rhythm, balance, and depth while learning how different media interact on the page. Critiques and artist references will support the development of a personal visual language and conceptual approach. No prior experience required—curiosity and experimentation encouraged
